Hello, |
Ms. Howell's Blog |
This is my ninth year teaching 2nd grade. I taught four years at York Preparatory Academy in Rock Hill, SC and four years at Springfield Elementary in Fort Mill, SC. This year I get the chance to help open a BRAND NEW school, River Trail Elementary! I am so excited to get to be apart of this great adventure and I'm looking forward to being in the Otter Family!
I'm originally from Rock Hill, SC. I graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and I received my Masters degree from Winthrop University in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Educational Technology. When I'm not preparing lessons and working on school assignments, I like to spend time with my family, friends, and cat, Thumper! I enjoy painting and doing small crafts. I recently started creating alcohol ink paintings and resin jewelry. I also love going to Clemson football games and I go to every home game! Go Tigers! My educational philosophy is that students learn best when they can express themselves and collaborate with others. When I teach I like to think of creative ways to challenge my students and ways to get them involved with choosing their own learning paths. Much of my lessons are inquiry based because I think you learn best by asking questions and then finding the answers to your own questions. In addition to that, I add activities that get students up and moving while they interact with their classmates. Building a classroom community is also something very important to me. Having a support system for my students is a key to success and when I think of a support system it includes teachers, parents, and the students' peers! |
